.
How much is 1 hour of your time worth?
In the beginning,
i thought this would be a very straight forward calculation.
But then as i thought deeper,
it is actually quite hard to quantify.
So, i came up with a few possibilities.
Choose the one you love most.
Suggested Calculation #1
Your Gross Monthly Salary (RM5,000)
Your Official working time (8hrs a day) (5day week) (20days a mth)
: RM5000/160hrs = RM31.25 per hour
Suggested Calculation #2 (Traffic Jam)
Your Gross Monthly Salary (RM5,000)
Your Official working time (8hrs a day) (5day week) (20days a mth)
Waking up 1 hour earlier to avoid traffic jam (1hr) (20 days)
Traffic Jam on way home (1hr) (20 days)
: RM5000/200hrs = RM25 per hour
Suggested Calculation #3 (Late Meetings)
Your Gross Monthly Salary (RM5,000)
Your Official working time (8hrs a day) (5day week) (20days a mth)
Boss habitually calling for meeting at 5.15pm (1.5hr)(3days a week)
Extra hours put in due to late meeting b'coz deadline is tomorrow 9am (1.5hr)(3days a week)
: RM5000/196hrs = RM25.50 per hour
Suggested Calculation #4 (Your time involved emotionally, mind, spirit & soul)
(i did not include all forseeable events, so that you won't feel that BAD)
Your Gross Monthly Salary (RM5,000)
Your Official working time (8hrs a day) (5day week) (20days a mth)
To avoid STRESS, you wake up 2 hours earlier to avoid traffic jam (2hrs)
To reduce STRESS you go home 1 hr late to avoid Traffic Jam (1hr)
To ensure your mind is fresh for work, you sleep 1hr early,
although your spouse is unhappy (1hr)
To secure that tender/success in project/prepared for a promotion,
you bring work home (nothing fancy, just simple tasks)(1hr)(3 days a week)
The amount of time you spend thinking during dinner
about the above simple tasks so that you can finish it quickly (1hr)(3 days a week)
The time you get angry because your spouse thinks that you
no longer make them feel important (1hr) (2days a week)
: RM5000/272hrs = RM18.38 per hour
Suggested Calculations #5
Try it with your Nett Salary
or maybe the actual hours that you devote all you mind to work (yes, including sleep)
I am having so much fun at this coz i used to be in that position.
Now I am free.
I'm grateful for that.
if you would like to know how i did it,
kindly read my earlier posts in this blog.
Now your reward for reading this far.
The story that spurred "How much is your 1 hour worth "
Can I Borrow $25?
A man came home from work late, tired and irritated,
to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.
SON: 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'
DAD: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.
SON: 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?
' the man said angrily.
SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour.'
SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.
SON: 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?'
The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you
can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then
you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about
why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such
childish frivolities.'
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little
boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some
money?
After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and
he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of
the little boy's room and opened the door.
'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.
'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.
'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the
man. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you.
Here's the $25 you asked for.'
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he
yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up
bills.
The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.
The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.
'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled..
'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.
'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come
home early tomorrow. I would like to
have dinner with you.'
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he
begged for his forgiveness.
It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We
should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some
time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do
remember to share that $50 worth of your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily
replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave
behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
If you have been working Hard just to earn Money, and along the way you have NEGLECTED your family, friends and loved ones.
Maybe it's time to reconsider, your priorities in LIFE.
IN this Globalised World, anything can happen.
You may be working with a Very BIG American Conglomerate today,
and tomorrow you may have no office to go back to.
Lehman Brothers (over USD600Billion in Assets) collapsed one year ago in Sept 2008.
Regardless, of who are - the CEO, Manager, Officer, or just an employee,
Maybe it's time to also find an alternate source of income,
where you can also build your NET WORTH on the side.

Maybe you did not receive this email by coincidence.
Just maybe ;)
